INDUSTRY PROGRAM HER DOCS FORUM 2024

Industry program dedicated to professionally active women documentary filmmakers: September 5-6, 2024, Warsaw.

DAY 1:  Thursday, 5.09.2024, Centrum Kultury Filmowej im. Andrzeja Wajdy (al. Ujazdowskie 20)

11:30 - 14:00  Transnational Filmmaking

One of the missions of the HER Docs Foundation is to support women documentary filmmakers who have been forced or have decided to leave their place of residence. Last year's edition of the HER Docs Forum became a platform for the exchange of ideas and networking for women documentary filmmakers from Central and Eastern Europe, especially from Ukraine and Belarus, who are professionally active in Poland. As part of the continuation of this transnational cooperation, we invite you to a think tank meeting this year. Together we will discuss what film narratives are created in the context of migration, what the balance of profits and losses of working outside the country of origin is like, and to what extent HER Docs and invited institutions can support women documentary filmmakers from abroad.

The meeting will be attended by documentary filmmakers working in Poland, participants of the Goethe-Institut in Exile program in Germany, producers and representatives of supporting programs:

  • Tetiana Dorodnitsyna, director (UKR/PL),

  • Anna Bławut Mazurkiewicz, producer - Aura Films (PL)

  • Tanya Haurylchyk, director (BE/DE),

  • Katja Gribova, reżyserka (UKR/DE),

  • Katarzyna Ślesicka, Andrzej Wajda Center for Film Culture / Centrum Kultury Filmowej im. Andrzeja Wajdy (PL),

  • Ilia Stenberg, B2B Doc (SE).

Moderators: Marta Golba-Naumann, HER Docs Foundation (PL) and Natalia Imaz, Documentary Association of Europe (DE).

The meeting will be held in English. We invite women filmmakers of all nationalities to actively participate.

DAY 2:  Friday, 6.09.2024, Goethe-Institut in Warsaw (ul. Chmielna 13a)

10:00 - 12:00  Is Feminist Documentary Filmmaking Possible in Poland?

What is feminist documentary filmmaking and is it possible in Poland? Taking up bold topics that break taboos on issues that society in Poland is strongly divided against is still met with opposition much more often than with support. Together with invited guests, we will take a closer look at both the past and possible scenarios for the future.

Guests:

  • Agnieszka Zwiefka, director (PL),

  • Hanka Nobis, director (PL),

  • Zuza Banasińska, director (PL/NL),

  • Karolina Lucyna Domagalska, director (PL).

Moderator: Katarzyna Trzaska, Association of Women Filmmakers / Stowarzyszenie Twórczyń Filmowych (PL).

The meeting will be held in Polish.

12:15 - 13:45  Not Only Festivals: Alternative Methods of Reaching the Audience.

Not only film festivals, or how to plan and implement activities aimed at impact, outreach and distribution of a documentary film in the production process. What are the measures of a film's success today and how to reach the audience outside of festivals? Together with experts from Poland and abroad and using examples of various documentary productions, we will talk about breaking stereotypes and paving new paths for distributing films.

Guests:

  • Anna Ramskogler-Witt, The Good Media Network (DE),

  • Joanna Solecka, Alphapanda Poland (PL).

Moderator: Weronika Adamowska, HER Docs (PL).

The lecture will be held in English.

15:00 - 18:00  Exercises in Engagement - How to Give to Others and Preserve Yourself?

How can you spot overloads in the demanding work of a documentary filmmaker and stop the burning spiral of self-sacrifice? To what extent are these phenomena a matter of individual choices and to what extent are they consequences of systemic conditions? Is chronic fatigue a reality that you have to get used to? How can you ecologically manage expendable energy and emotional resources to minimize the risk of burnout? How can you ask for support and wisely provide it to yourself and the world?
We invite you to a three-hour workshop and networking meeting, during which we will share knowledge, exchange experiences and look for ideas for the future.

Please note that the workshop will be held in Polish.
