SYNOPIS

By penetrating the world of beauty pageants, a young activist tries to oppose the patriarchal order of the world. Will she manage to start a rebellion before this system corrupts her? At the festival we present a fragment of the feature-length documentary comedy "Miss of Poland" (working title). The premiere is scheduled in 2021, for the 100th anniversary of the creation of miss pageants around the world.

The Shostak and Jasiukiewicz duo have been cooperating together since 2018, creating films, artworks and performances. The film “Miss of Poland” which they co-directed will premiere in 2021.

Jana Shostak was born in 1993 in Grodno. Currently she is a PhD student at the University of the Arts in Poznań. On June 20th, 2017 – the Global Newman Day – she defended her master thesis under Miroslaw Bałka at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. The defence took place in Saturn electronics shop in Złote Tarasy shopping mall – for her master’s projects the artist used over 60 TV’s. Jana Shostak received numerous awards including Prize of the Association of Stage Writers and Composers (ZAiKS) during the Coming Out exhibition (2017), The Award of the Mayor of the City of Słupsk during the Biennale Of Young Art “Rybie Oko” (2017) as well as the Grand Prix of the Young Wolves competition (2016).

Jakub Jasiukiewicz (born in 1983) – studied intermedia at the University of the Arts in Poznań where he received both his master’s (2008) and doctoral (2012) degrees. Currently he lectures in the UAP’s Expanded Cinema Workshop. He had nine solo exhibitions and his works were featured in over 70 group shows. He received scholarships from Visegrad Fund (2009), Akademie Schloss Solitude (2010) and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland (2010). He works with Warsaw-based Rodriguez Gallery.
